Description

Weld Ready Raw Steel

Attempting to weld standard BZP (zinc-plated) washers produces toxic zinc oxide fumes and often leads to porosity and weak, contaminated welds.

Self-colour steel is completely untreated. This gives you the practical advantage of a fixing that is ready to weld straight out of the packet, allowing for clean, strong, and highly secure joints with zero grinding or mechanical prep work required.

Ideal for Custom Finishes

Paints, primers, and powder coatings often struggle to bond effectively to zinc-plated or heavily galvanized surfaces, leading to flaking and peeling over time.

Because these washers are bare mild steel, they provide an excellent, porous surface for coatings to grip. Once degreased, they take primers, custom paints, and powder coating exceptionally well, ensuring a flawless finish across your entire assembly.

Essential Load Distribution

Driving a high-torque bolt directly into untreated steel framing focuses all the pressure onto a very small area, which can deform the bracketry or pull through clearance holes.

These Form A washers instantly increase the bearing surface area. This evenly distributes the clamping force from the nut or bolt head, giving you a much stronger, more stable joint for heavy industrial applications.

Standardized Form A Precision

When fabricating precision metalwork, mismatched hardware can compromise the structural integrity of your build.

Manufactured to exact DIN-125A specifications, these Form A washers feature a highly standardized thickness and outside diameter. This ensures a perfect, flush fit with standard metric bolts and machine screws, allowing for precise engineering tolerances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does "Self-Colour" mean?

In engineering fasteners, "self-colour" means the metal has not been plated, galvanized, or coated with any anti-corrosion finish like BZP. The washer remains the natural, dark grey/black colour of raw mild steel, often supplied with a very light oil residue to prevent flash rusting during transit.

Will these washers rust?

Yes, very rapidly. Because there is no protective zinc or stainless coating, exposing self-colour steel to moisture or outdoor environments will cause it to rust almost immediately. They must be painted, powder-coated, or thoroughly oiled after installation to prevent oxidation.

Why would I choose these instead of BZP zinc-plated washers?

You should choose self-colour washers specifically if you intend to weld them. Welding BZP (zinc-plated) steel creates highly toxic zinc oxide fumes (which can cause "metal fume fever") and often results in a weak, porous weld. Self-colour washers require no grinding or prep work and are 100% weld-safe straight out of the pack.
