Frequently Asked Questions

Why is CTEC CT1 so popular among professional tradespeople?

CT1 is unique because it acts as both a universal adhesive and a highly flexible sealant, effectively replacing the need to carry multiple different tubes. Its most famous feature is its ability to bond successfully to almost any surface (including glass, metal, wood, and fiberglass) and it can even be applied directly underwater or in the pouring rain without losing its bond or shrinking.

Can I use Pink Grip to seal around a bath or shower tray?

No. Pink Grip is a high-strength, solvent-based gap-filling adhesive designed specifically for structural bonding (such as fixing heavy skirting boards, dado rails, or wall battens). It is not designed to be a waterproof surface sealant. To seal wet areas like a bath or shower, you must use a dedicated sanitary silicone, which contains powerful fungicides to resist mould and remains permanently flexible.

Can I paint directly over standard silicone sealant?

No. Standard silicone sealants are designed specifically to repel water, which means both water-based and oil-based paints will simply bead up and slide off the cured surface. If you need to paint over a sealed gap (such as the join between a timber door frame and a plastered wall), you should use an acrylic-based decorators' caulk, which is specifically formulated to be fully paintable once dry.
