While both are split lock washers, DIN 7980 washers feature a square cross-section wire, whereas DIN 127 typically has a rectangular cross-section. The square profile of the DIN 7980 is often preferred for cylinder head screws (like socket caps) as it fits neatly under the head without protruding, providing a focused locking force.
A2 (304) stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance for general outdoor use, but for harsh marine environments or direct saltwater exposure, we recommend upgrading to A4 (316) stainless steel to prevent pitting.
Ideally, spring washers should be replaced after disassembly. Once fully compressed and subjected to load over time, the spring steel can lose some of its elasticity (memory), reducing its ability to provide the same locking tension a second time.
